Poker Tournament starts at 1:30pm, but you get extra 2,000 chips if you join before 1:15 pm! Manuel Charbonnier is in charge of this. We will double check with everyone about the new name for RCAD. Just want to make sure we make the majority of members happy. :) We will also start amateur standup comedy night with a chance to win prizes. The audience will vote! Anyone can participate. We will play dingo if there is still time left. Door prizes will be also given away at the end of the night! Admission is $3 for members, $7 for nonmembers. $3 for students. Kids under 12 get in free. We will be selling homemade chili, chili dog, regular hot dogs, nacho and drinks. December 11, 2009 7:00 pm –9:30 pm • What? Several deaf ministries/churches in Northeast Florida will participate. – Covered dish dinner. We provide meat and drinks, you bring a covered dish to share. – White elephant gift exchange: If you want to play, bring a wrapped gift valued at $10.00. – Parents may chose to bring an inexpensive wrapped gift with their own child’s name on it (Not required.). We will have a Christmas craft for children to make an ornament. – There will be Christmas songs, ASL drama and fun! • Where? Program Description:
The Talking Book/Special Needs Library will be showing a movie in Closed Caption for the deaf, hearing impaired, their friends and family on the second Saturday of each month.

ORLANDO, Fla. - (KRT) - In Philadelphia, where Jim Schooley grew up, there were four different deaf clubs. They sponsored basketball and baseball teams. There were pool tables and dart boards. During Christmas, a deaf Santa handed out presents to the children.

The deaf clubs were the center of the deaf community, the portals through which the deaf became indoctrinated into deaf culture.

Not any more. Throughout the nation, deaf clubs are on the decline. The younger deaf are eschewing the deaf clubs of their parents for the Internet, text-messaging and e-mail.
